The research area wants to contribute to greater equality by starting from the perspective of the person concerned and conducting research in the life situation of the person. It is about people, technology, pedagogy and design in a society for all. The research area originates from the former department Certec.

The research clearly links to the UN's global goals on reduced inequality, which emphasises the importance of working for a society where no one is left behind. Below are some examples of current research.

• Tactile display for access to digital information for people with visual impairments
  An EU project with the goal of developing a way to experience digital images through a combination of emotional experiences and sound.
   
• Music, interactive design, sensory stimulation and quality (in Swedish)
  A project on multisensory musical instruments that enables people with extensive communicative, cognitive and physical disabilities to express themselves musically and communicate with others.
   
• Expressing and implementing equality and inclusion
  A project where a tool is developed and tested to describe what characterises good equality solutions in the physical environment, which allows municipalities to focus on equality goals (not inequality problems) and how to achieve them in their development processes.
   
• Visualization for universal design in planning and construction processes (in Swedish)
  A project that will lead to a visualisation tool, with the aim of facilitating that universal design is better taken into account throughout the planning and construction process.
   
• From passive recipient to active resource in the crisis management system (in Swedish)
  The project focuses on how people with disabilities can be involved as active resources in society's crisis management. In the long term, the aim is to use developed methods and guidelines to achieve a society that is safer and that better meets diversity, social inclusion and equality.
