Anda Gliga, Assistant Professor in toxicology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institute, will give a presentation about “Exploring toxicity of particles through integrating traditional in vitro approaches with transcriptomics”.

Transcriptomic approaches are increasingly used in the field of toxicology for assessing changes in gene expression involving thousands of genes following exposure to different toxicants. These techniques help uncover changes in biological pathways and networks, thus providing valuable insights into toxicity mechanisms. In this seminar, she will discuss the synergistic use of transcriptomic approaches, traditional toxicity testing, the use of sensitive cell models, and relevant experimental setups to investigate the underlying mechanisms of particle-induced toxicity. The primary emphasis will be on two specific types of particles: welding particles and biodiesel combustion particles.
